Tiger Woods Supporting Lindsey Vonn On And Off The Slopes As She Prepares For Sochi (PHOTOS)

AppId is over the quota

With Lindsey Vonn skiing in an Alpine World Cup event in Val d' Isere on Saturday, it was Tiger Woods' turn to do the spectating. He couldn't have liked what he saw.

After Vonn spent parts of her summer supporting him at golf courses across the country during the 2013 PGA Tour season, Woods accompanied her to France as she continues her preparation for the Sochi Olympics. He was spotted near the finish line when her injured right knee "just completely gave out" and she abruptly skied out of a downhill run.

The reigning Olympic downhill champion, Vonn underwent surgery in February to repair two torn ligaments in her right knee suffered in a horrific crash that also resulted in a broken leg. With the Sochi Olympics fast approaching, her return to the slopes has been hit with setbacks. She was taken to a hospital in Colorado after a training crash in November.

"I didn't hurt myself more than I'm already hurt," Vonn told The Associated Press on Saturday. "It was a small compression, and it was fully loaded on the right ski and my knee just completely gave out. I tried to pressure the ski again and it gave out again. I had no chance of making that gate, unfortunately."

Two days before Vonn's painful, unfinished run, Woods revealed he would be making time in his 2014 schedule to support his girlfriend as she prepares for Sochi. Addressing his own comeback from reconstructive knee surgery, Woods' words about the difficulty of regaining form and confidence proved prescient.

"I'm going to put my clubs away for a while to spend more time with my kids and support my girlfriend Lindsey Vonn as she tries to prepare for the Sochi Olympics," Woods wrote in a blog post published his official website. "Having experienced reconstructive surgery on my knee and the ensuing rehab, and the amount of pain associated with it, it's really hard to explain to anybody unless you've been through it. And then coming back on it athletically, to trust that it's going to be there, that's a whole different ballgame. I've had my share of experiences in that regard -- unfortunately -- but I think it helps her in a sense because she can bounce ideas off me about what to expect. It is a frustrating process and really difficult to go through."

Before beginning the World Cup season, Vonn spoke to USA TODAY Sports about Woods' calming influence as she has worked her way back from the devastating injury.

"Sometimes I get panicky and worried (when a movement didn't feel right) and he's like, 'Calm down you're fine,'" Vonn told USA TODAY Sports.

Whether it's for the support or just to see him out of his element, Vonn hopes they'll both make it to Sochi in February.

"We're going to see how his schedule goes, but he's hoping to come," Vonn told People in August. "He's kind of a fish out of water in the cold weather. It's going to be really cute!"
