Tiger Woods Supporting Lindsey Vonn On And Off The Slopes As She Prepares For Sochi (PHOTOS)

AppId is over the quota

With Lindsey Vonn skiing in an Alpine World Cup event in Val d' Isere on Saturday, it was Tiger Woods' turn to do the spectating. He couldn't have liked what he saw.

After Vonn spent parts of her summer supporting him at golf courses across the country during the 2013 PGA Tour season, Woods accompanied her to France as she continues her preparation for the Sochi Olympics. He was spotted near the finish line when her injured right knee "just completely gave out" and she abruptly skied out of a downhill run.

The reigning Olympic downhill champion, Vonn underwent surgery in February to repair two torn ligaments in her right knee suffered in a horrific crash that also resulted in a broken leg. With the Sochi Olympics fast approaching, her return to the slopes has been hit with setbacks. She was taken to a hospital in Colorado after a training crash in November.

"I didn't hurt myself more than I'm already hurt," Vonn told The Associated Press on Saturday. "It was a small compression, and it was fully loaded on the right ski and my knee just completely gave out. I tried to pressure the ski again and it gave out again. I had no chance of making that gate, unfortunately."

Two days before Vonn's painful, unfinished run, Woods revealed he would be making time in his 2014 schedule to support his girlfriend as she prepares for Sochi. Addressing his own comeback from reconstructive knee surgery, Woods' words about the difficulty of regaining form and confidence proved prescient.

"I'm going to put my clubs away for a while to spend more time with my kids and support my girlfriend Lindsey Vonn as she tries to prepare for the Sochi Olympics," Woods wrote in a blog post published his official website. "Having experienced reconstructive surgery on my knee and the ensuing rehab, and the amount of pain associated with it, it's really hard to explain to anybody unless you've been through it. And then coming back on it athletically, to trust that it's going to be there, that's a whole different ballgame. I've had my share of experiences in that regard -- unfortunately -- but I think it helps her in a sense because she can bounce ideas off me about what to expect. It is a frustrating process and really difficult to go through."

Before beginning the World Cup season, Vonn spoke to USA TODAY Sports about Woods' calming influence as she has worked her way back from the devastating injury.

"Sometimes I get panicky and worried (when a movement didn't feel right) and he's like, 'Calm down you're fine,'" Vonn told USA TODAY Sports.

Whether it's for the support or just to see him out of his element, Vonn hopes they'll both make it to Sochi in February.

"We're going to see how his schedule goes, but he's hoping to come," Vonn told People in August. "He's kind of a fish out of water in the cold weather. It's going to be really cute!"

We're endlessly surprised by just how powerful perspective can be. Where most people saw a row of apartments, the artists of French creative collective CitéCréation saw a canvas -- and three years later, one of the world's largest murals was born.

The 22,000-square-meter artwork adorns the walls of the Wohngenossenschaft Soldaritaet Coop apartment complex in Berlin. Its nature and wildlife theme was inspired by a local zoo, according to the Daily Mail.

"The gray concrete transforms into a forest," CitéCréation's website says of the mural, "populated with lush green trees and colorful birds, as if by magic to break the monolithic and oppressive urban landscape of the suburbs."

The CitéCréation collective consists of 80 mural painters and has produced more than 600 giant works of art, including others in Berlin. Their mission is to add an element of magic to otherwise drab urban settings.

This particular mural, which was completed in August, is being considered for the Guinness World Record for the largest mural on an inhabited building on the planet.

Not a bad way to spruce up the neighborhood, we think.

UCLA Tops USC 35-14 For Second Straight Win In L.A. Showdown (PHOTOS)

AppId is over the quota

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brett Hundley passed for 208 yards and rushed for two touchdowns, leading No. 22 UCLA past No. 23 Southern California 35-14 Saturday night and winning the crosstown showdown for the second straight season.

Linebacker Myles Jack and defensive end Eddie Vanderdoes also rushed for touchdowns as the Bruins (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12) earned their first win at the Coliseum since 1997, retaining the Victory Bell by grinding out just their third victory over USC (9-4, 6-3) in 15 years.

Javorius Allen rushed for 123 yards and a score for the Trojans, who had won five straight in their revitalized season under interim coach Ed Orgeron.

Cody Kessler passed for 174 yards and hit Xavier Grimble with a TD pass for USC. But its defense couldn't handle Hundley, who rushed for 80 yards.

Hundley and UCLA coach Jim Mora have never lost to the Trojans, and Jack had his latest big game in his first taste of the rivalry. After the freshman scored his seventh touchdown in four games, he also recovered Allen's fumble deep in UCLA territory early in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Barr then swatted the ball out of Kessler's hand from behind with 6 minutes left, and Cassius Marsh fell on the fumble near midfield. After Hundley rushed 23 yards up the middle on another nimble draw, Paul Perkins scored the clinching TD from 8 yards out with 3:50 to play.

The game didn't help the unlikely cause of Orgeron, who emerged as a legitimate candidate for the full-time USC job by revitalizing a stagnant USC program since replacing Lane Kiffin in late September.

Orgeron got the Trojans back into the national rankings, shocked No. 5 Stanford earlier this month, and made football fun again at USC — but he also lost to Notre Dame and UCLA, the Trojans' two biggest rivals. Athletic director Pat Haden hasn't said when he'll pick a full-time coach.

Marqise Lee had six catches for 69 yards in what's expected to be the final home game for the USC junior, who won the Biletnikoff Award last year before struggling with injuries all season long.

The crosstown rivals had rarely been so evenly matched heading into their annual meeting. UCLA and USC hadn't been next to each other in the AP rankings for the game since 1976, and both schools are headed to bowl games after solid seasons.

Both teams wore their home jerseys at the Coliseum, sticking to tradition at the venerable arena they shared for decades. UCLA broke from that tradition two years ago and debuted an all-white uniform at the Coliseum, only to lose 50-0 in a game that got coach Rick Neuheisel fired.

Two hours before the game, USC's players and coaches gathered in a large circle at midfield in what's become a tradition under Orgeron. The Trojans exchanged angry words with several Bruins attempting to warm up on the field, but security and coaches preventing anything but insults from being thrown.

The Coliseum crowd roared for USC's seniors before the game — and then went crazy when former linebacker Willie McGinest led the rest of the Trojans onto the field after ripping off his sweatshirt to reveal his old No. 55 jersey and pulling on a helmet.

UCLA made a 48-yard scoring drive late in the first quarter, with Hundley calling plays at the line of scrimmage and scrambling repeatedly to set up Jack's 3-yard TD run. Jack scored 6 touchdowns on 35 carries in the Bruins' previous three games when the freshman was pressed into offensive service by injuries to several UCLA tailbacks.

UCLA added an 80-yard scoring drive early in the second quarter ending in a TD run by the 305-pound Vanderdoes, who committed to USC and Notre Dame before switching from the Irish to UCLA earlier this year.

The Trojans finally replied with a sturdy drive and an 11-yard TD run by Allen, who has seized the top job at Tailback U. from injured Silas Redd and Tre Madden.

UCLA's offense was stopped on fourth down at the USC 12 late in the first half, but the Bruins went up 21-7 early in the second half on an 11-yard TD draw by Hundley, who went in untouched.

The Trojans responded with a 22-yard TD pass to Grimble, but the Bruins got another huge kick return from Ishmael Adams and scored less than three minutes later. Hundley took it in on a 5-yard run, beating USC's Devon Kennard to the corner for his second TD.

'Come Home LeBron' Shirts Passed Out Before Heat-Cavs Game (PHOTOS)

AppId is over the quota

Three years after having their hearts broken on national television, some Cleveland Cavaliers fans are feeling the spirit of forgiveness. Before LeBron James took on his former team on Wednesday night in Cleveland, some Cavs fans passed around and shirts that said, "Come Home LeBron" on the front.

The fans who created the shirts made a website as well that included this statement:

Our goal is very simple: To show LeBron that some attitudes in Northeast Ohio have changed. Many of us who felt betrayed and scorned are turning and we are open to having him come back. It’s not an expectation that he comes back…it’s to show that the masses don’t all feel the hatred that was portrayed before.

Is it everyone? Absolutely not. We respect that a lot of people still have tough feelings about the whole Decision and its aftermath. Some never stopped being a fan of LeBron and others have let time heal their wounds. We want to win and we know that LeBron probably does want to win for Cleveland.

Quicken Loans Arena looked somewhat different than when James played their for the first time in a Miami uniform.

Three years after "The Decision," after the boos, the signs mocking him and the burning of his jersey, LeBron was flattered by the Cavs fans' gesture.

"It's not for me to really comment on or really get too caught up in it," James said after Miami's win, per Shandel Richardson of the Sun Sentinel. "Like I said, it's humbling. It's flattering to know that you have fans everywhere. I'm grateful for that."
